A little bit about how I got into this: When I was in college, I used to think I ate healthy – but I always felt sluggish and I was unhappy in my own body. However, when I graduated, I took a good hard look at my daily caloric intake and OMG I was eating so much! I couldn’t believe how much things added up to, and I started realizing that even the food I was consuming was not healthy in itself. I never have believed in “going on a diet” because throughout my entire childhood, I watch my poor mother go on and off every diet out there! No carbs. No fat. Weight watchers. South beach diet. She was a happy woman, but I felt like that part of her was always struggling. But here I was, finding myself feeling exactly how she did – struggling and dissatisfied. I immediately made a change in my diet [not ‘going on a diet’] but I started to be mindful of what I was eating. I began to portion my foods and watch myself around alcohol, snacks and desserts [probably what led to my weight gain in college]. Although I was happy with the weight loss, I found myself constantly worried about weight gain and if I was going enough.
Over the years, I have grown to understand myself and figure out why I was having those feelings. I can confidently say that I have gotten to a really good place where I’ve learned how to cook, eat and exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle while living guilt free. We all have our good and bad days, but it’s all about having balance!
